Book Reviews

Not that we have all kinds of free time, but we've managed to get through quite a few books lately.

Dave listens in the car and just finished Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini. He really enjoys these type of sagas. They are in the category of fantasy and science fiction, and apparently, there will be an Eragon movie later this year. He is now listening to Vince Flynn's latest, Consent to Kill. We are both Flynn fans.

This month I have made it through In Her Shoes (now I want to see the movie), The Book of Ruth (thumbs down), The Pilot's Wife (a little predictable), and The Devil Wears Prada (hilarious in a Nanny Diaries way). I finally gave into to peer pressure and our church's latest sermon topic and read The DaVinci Code this weekend. Nice little thriller. I am working on Lucky Man (Michael J.Fox's autobiography) and I am halfway through the 9/11 Report (my standby when I need something to make me sleepy!!).

I really need to quit reading now and get to work on our yard and my scrapbook projects (and housework, cleaning and everything else yucky I've been putting off). Ugh.

Three Alarm Fire

My evening seemed like it would be normal last night. I had a great day at work- I put in 2.5 hours at my very part time job then went to the mall to buy a wedding gift. I had not been to the Green Hills mall since the grand re-opening, and it was nice. I even had time to check out the new Cheesecake Factory (I might have accidently bought a slice of cheesecake that I'm saving for when Dave gets home tonight).

Daniel had a good day at school. My parents, who are always kind to me when Dave is out of town and they know I am lonely, said we could meet for dinner at Red Lobster. All went well until the salads came. Daniel ate one half of a cucumber and suddenly decided to display the contents of his stomach all over the place. After a huge cleanup and calm down, we decided we could stay for dinner. Daniel even had some crackers and seemed to feel better.

We went home and played outside a little bit and then Daniel started to get really tired. We got him to bed early, then he started crying. At the same time, the little boys that lived behind us were screaming loudly. I thought they were probably just hungry, they don't usually eat dinner until 7:30 or 8pm.

Daniel had gotten sick again, so while my mom was working on the laundry and my dad was calming him down, I tried to figure out the faint beeping noise I kept hearing. Then I heard the sirens.

Turned out the little boys behind our house were screaming because their kitchen was on fire. Soon there were three fire trucks, a police car and an ambulance on the street. The firemen were everywhere for a long time. Half the neighborhood was out wandering around trying to get the scoop. The story is a small grease fire can take out a kitchen pretty quick, especially when your fire extinguisher doesn't work. (Need to test ours). No one was hurt, although now instead of a dead deer, I'm looking at a very scorched microwave that is sitting out in the backyard.

Daniel seems to feel better today, although he isn't eating much. My stomach is kind of icky, so I hope I am not next. Dave is gone until 8pm tonight, so we will all be happy to see him!

Too Tired Out

Our little boy set a new record this morning, sleeping until 10:30 am! I kept checking on him all morning, but he was just fine. Dave and I are so jealous! We both woke up at 5 am from Dave's coughing (major allergy activity in our family right now).

We guess Daniel is tired because we had such a busy weekend. We had a picnic on Friday with Carson (who says he is Spiderman but doesn't want to actually be called Spiderman). Saturday morning we had a fun birthday party at our church, and Saturday evening we had Carson and new baby Colby over so their parents could have a date. Sunday was early church (as usual) and Easter dinner at Grandma and Pa Pa's house. Lots of outdoor playtime with lots of friends produces one worn out little boy. Whew!!

Promotions and Politeness

I can officially now announce Dave's promotion this year to Senior Associate. It was announced on Monday and we attended a company dinner Monday night to celebrate. It was a lot of fun, especially to attend two years in a row (we attended last year because Dave had finished passing his tests in 2004). Dave better have a big year so we can go again next year!! Dave has worked very hard and I know he is well-respected by the partners in his firm. I am so proud of him!!

Daniel has become the model of politeness. He already knew "Please" very well, and he now says "thank you" when you give him anything! The last few days he has been taking his juice cup to the kitchen and setting it up on the counter when he's done. Fast forward to his teen years and I will need to remember this little season of sweetness.

And me, I've not been promoted and I'm probably not as polite as I should be, but I'm having a great spring so far and enjoying my free time now that my little tax season is over. I've gotten a lot of little projects done, and my next endeavor will be our garden after the last frost date passes this weekend.

A little windswept, that's all

Just a quick note to let you know we did survive the tornado activity yesterday. There wasn't anything too serious on our side of town except some hail. I'll post some pictures of it. Daniel was actually spending the day with Lydia, so they kept the storm watch together until I picked him up.
We are so tired from me working and Dave being gone the last three weeks in a row that we did absolutely nothing today and it was so nice....
