Winter Work

I haven't blogged much this last week because we've all been fighting the nastiest cold. Everyone we know has it also, so if you don't have it yet you will soon.

Wesley is still doing well. He had his two month check up yesterday and got three shots so last night was a little traumatic. Yesterday I got the letter to remind me to enroll Daniel for preschool in the fall. That kind of freaked me out. And when I went to pick up Daniel at school, I ran into a girl I babysat many moons ago. She was picking up the little boy she is babysitting. She's 21 now, which means I am really really old. And my birthday is next week so then it will be official.

Blockbuster is going well. By my count, we are up to movie # 15 for the month so we are getting our money's worth. So far my favorites have been World Trade Center and The Devil Wears Prada.

I have been working on lining up my tax clients for the year. I need to make enough money to keep my CPA license active, so if you are reading this blog, feel free to refer anyone who needs tax help. I'm still in the hole for last year's expenses so I need to pick up the pace a little without taking on too much.

And speaking of making money, I have put my first item up for auction on ebay. If all goes well, maybe someday I will be a power seller. My name is stew565 if you are interested in buying some baby formula checks. Hopefully this will go well and I can get some free money for my grocery fund...

Woo-Hoo Wesley!

Congrats to all of us- Wesley celebrated his 7 week birthday on Saturday by sleeping through the night- 10:30pm to 6:00 am! Unfortunately as things usually go, Daniel was up at 4am with the croup, so we did not get to fully appreciate the night.

Last night was ok too- Wesley slept 12-6:30am. I went to bed at 10, and only woke up a few times, so it was the most sleep I've had since sometime last summer. Dave gets the gold star for pulling the late shift last night.

On Board with Blockbuster

We finally did something crazy and joined Blockbuster Online. We just got so tired of not having anything to watch on tv every night and we are still not ready for cable channels. After my negative rant on Delta, it's time for a more positive review.

We did the one month free trial with the 3 DVD plan, and a few days after we joined our local stores decided to participate in the Total Access program (they had been holding out). This means we can rent movies for free with any DVD we want to turn into the store instead of mailing it back. We have done this, and we are happy to report they shipped us our next movie as promised before the store movies were due back. Our shipment location is Louisville, which means we get everything the next day.

The email communication is great- we always know when they have received our movies and when more are on the way. I found it a little difficult to add movies to our Queue at first, but now that I've found the "add" button (sleep deprived moment), it seems to work just fine.

When a movie didn't show up on the day it was promised, I reported it missing and a replacment shipped out the next day. And when they accidently sent us the #2 movie on our queue list, they went ahead and shipped us the #1 movie also within the next few hours. They caught their own mistake, corrected it, and now somehow we are up to 4 DVDs out at time. I keep thinking they will catch on to this, but they keep shipping them along.

And we like the turnover rate- we joined on December 28th and I think we've watched 10 movies (individually, just a few of them we watched together) so far in the last 11 days- not too bad. I think this plan might be a keeper.

Daniel and all of his trains

Smiling Wesley at Five Weeks

New Year, New News

I should be sleeping right now, but I am actually averaging around 6 hours total at night, so I am feeling great and feel more like playing on the computer. Here's what's been going on this week:

Dave- Working late every night and trying to make up for taking off work during the holidays. He pulls the late shift with the baby 9-11 pm, but I let him sleep through the night now, so I'm not feeling too bad about that. Now if only the other 50% of our family could sleep through the night.

Daniel- Trying to get back on his normal schedule. School yesterday was a little shock since he hadn't been in awhile. If he's not playing with his cars, then he's playing with his trains. Switch and repeat all day long.

Wesley- He is a sweet baby, and he is over 11 pounds at this point. He seems less fussy than Daniel, which may be due to me temporarily giving up dairy products. Oh how I miss them. I swear I dreamed about cream cheese the other night. I'm eating way too much chocolate to make up for it.

Christina- My excitement this week was getting my ears cleaned out by an ENT. My right ear was completely blocked by wax and I couldn't hear out of it. I hadn't had this happen since high school. Dr. ENT said "no more q-tips" and he would see me again in 20 more years.

Today was our first venture - me and the boys- to run an errand. I enlisted the help of my friend Mandy since we were both going to the same place- Harris Teeter. It's triple coupon weekend so we had to get our "deals" before they run out of stuff. I think I'll go back tomorrow morning for a few more things. We were quite a sight towing three kids through the aisles, but we made it and got a lot of free or 25-50 cent stuff.

Mr Deer Hunter just gutted another one today. I got to watch while I was eating lunch. I think he's up to 6 or 7 this season. I've lost count. Dave says he must be on a mission to wipe out the deer population in this county. I continue to wonder if we'll ever have nice normal neighbors...

Our New Year's resolutions: Dave is going to join XBox Live if I promise not to complain too much about it, we were going to join Blockbuster Online (already accomplished), and Wesley and I are going to try and sleep through the night by spring. Daniel is going to learn to mow the yard, read and write and prepare dinner every night. He's an ambitious little guy, but we know he can do it.
