Cruising for Fall

It seems everyone we know (ok, maybe just 4 families we know) is going to Destin this week. We've caught the beach bug but we probably can't go until next spring. We already have trips lined up for October and November and we're just hoping our TSA watch list-cursed family can survive those travels.

Check out our famous friends Patrick and Lydia and all of their cool Disney tips. They made the paper yesterday with Ms. Cheap (my grocery shopping friend). Their too cute picture was in the paper but it didn't seem to make it to the online story. If you need more disney tips, check out their blog.

Daniel has started calling himself "Super D Daniel". I am "Super D Mommy" and Dave is "Super D Daddy". I think he must be imagining we all have super powers. Which made me think about what I would like my super power to be. I think I would like to be able to find lost items, since I seem to have misplaced my book that lists all of my things to do and ideas and Christmas lists. And I can't find the time to look for it either.

Wesley would like you to know he can cruise anywhere he wants and he'll be walking very soon since he is 10 months this week. He is ready to rumble!! He's also requested that I add his name to the top of the blog since he's going to stick around for awhile. Oops!

Haircuts and Highways

I cut Dave and Daniel's hair on Saturday morning and Dave convinced me to give Wesley a trim since his hair was in his eyes. I really didn't want to do it, but I tried and of course it looked horrible. All of this drama led to a trip to the real hairdresser for the first official haircut. Wesley (and mommy) survived and he looks great.

Also of note this week: Our new road (Cool Spring Blvd extension) and exit (McEwen) from the interstate opened this week, saving us 5-10 minutes anytime we want to access the interstate and giving us all kinds of new routes to restaurants and shopping. For instance, it was a 15 minute drive to Costco, now it's 5 minutes (so we finally joined). Dunkin' Donuts just became a 5 minute trip instead of 15, and Dave is also home from work 7-8 minutes faster.

maybe it's just me

But after watching Oprah yesterday, I think Mary Jo Winkler got away with murder.

And I think Oprah just let her tell 40 million people it's ok to shoot your husband if he's mean to you.

What ever happened to marriage counseling as a logical first step? I think Dr. Phil could have been of some assistance.

Bonnie and Clyde

I haven't flown in over a year, but we took Wesley on a quick trip over the weekend to a hospital opening near Jacksonville, FL. Daniel stayed with the grandparents and Aunt Julie who spoiled him to death and took him for a ride on Thomas the train.

Since I hadn't taken a trip through security in awhile, I had to research the TSA's position on baby food, etc. I thought I was prepared for anything, but when we checked in, I found out something else has changed. I am now on the TSA watch list! So thankful Dave and I can bond over this momentous event.

When we take Daniel on a plane next month, I guess we'll find out if he's made it on the list yet.
So far Wesley is not under suspicion (whew).

Other observations from this weekend:

  • Why is your meal always free when the company is picking up the tab? I had a horrible experience at Longhorn steakhouse last night that resulted in a free meal.
  • At the event we attended, I saw a lady wearing a dress she made completely out of USA flag material. I kid you not, and there was even a hat to match.
  • Dave handled his speech at the hospital like a rock star. I knew he would.
  • On both flights they served the peanuts 30 minutes after the drinks in an apparent effort to cut back on takers.
  • I love that you can rent a car seat with your rental car but HATE when you have to install it yourself. Strange car, strange carseat, latches located 4 inches deep within the seat, 90 degrees outside, haven't had dinner and it's 8pm, this is a recipe for a parental breakdown...

In very BRIGHT news, the road extension near our house opened this morning and we saved 10 minutes coming home today. Our new interstate exit will be open on Friday and this will also cut 10 minutes off any trip to/from the interstate!!

The Party is Over....

But it sure was fun. We had a great time celebrating Daniel's third birthday. Last week was one long party that included a train store playdate with some buddies, a visit from all of the Stewart family, lots of presents, a racetrack birthday cake, Wesley's dedication at church on Sunday, and a fun labor day with lots of playtime. Four girl cousins and a new boy cousin ran around here (well, two of them are not running yet) for two days and it was a ton of fun to have them all together.

Tomorrow is the first day of school, mommy's first day of freedom, and the beginning of "fall". It is a busy week with a lot of things starting up again. We are looking forward to all of it!

Quick updates: Wesley is working on tooth # 7 and will be walking by next month, Daniel is most in love with "High School Musical" and his Hot Wheels racetrack, the neighbor's deer stand is still under construction, and I still can't figure out how to find friends on Facebook (but random people I know are finding me?). I need a Facebook coach!! Dave has a new phone, a new gmail account, and he bought two shirts tonight when I told him to pick out some new socks. Guess who will be buying socks this week....
