Packing it up

Daniel has been super excited about a trip we will be taking soon. He has wanted to "pack his backpack" and I have let him fill it up over the last few days. He has had trouble getting the zipper closed because he has put so much stuff in there! Today he is at Mother's Day Out and I needed to re-pack it while he is gone. It was fun for me to see what he had considered important to take on this trip:
  • scissors
  • little plastic pieces from the Operation game
  • puzzle pieces from a map puzzle
  • a few Legos
  • 3 stuffed animals
  • 2 Star Wars toys
  • 1 pull-up (night time diaper)
  • his handout lesson from church last week
  • an Elmo book (probably for Wesley)
  • some plastic dinosaurs
We'll end up taking some of this stuff, but I had to make room for a few other things. So hopefully he won't notice what is missing because he will be so excited to be on a plane.

Lake Adventures

A friend from community group took all the guys and their sons out on his boat Saturday. Daniel had a great time (even though he looks annoyed in this picture). Wesley wasn't big enough to go boating and was devastated when the boys left without him, but he seemed somewhat consoled by a balloon he got at Publix (hey, my entertainment options are limited!).

School Stories

We are so excited the boys are liking their new school. Daniel told me yesterday "it is a little bit of fun at school". His teachers have been observant of his "slow to warm up" nature and have kept me updated on his participation in the class. Today they reported he really came out of his shell and started telling them some stories. I would have loved to hear them, but I did hear a good one on the way home today.

Daniel found an acorn in the parking lot at school and started talking about squirrels. He said he hadn't seen any squirrels around here and wondered aloud where they went. He thought for a minute and said, "I know what happened! It rained really hard and then it got hot, so all of the squirrels moved to Washington DC." Watch out, Aunt Julie and GWB, they are all headed towards you!

Wesley is loved and adored by his teachers (I'm not just saying this- they came right out and told me he is one of their "best" ones). Even though he had to miss a day due to sickness last week, our little extrovert has enjoyed being around the other kids and adults. He is even making cute crafts and enjoying his music class.

As for me, the free time is great, especially when Dave is traveling so much and working late. I've been able to catch up on errands, have lunch with friends, work and hopefully I will tackle some bigger postponed projects in the next few weeks. Today, I had my hair cut and colored because my bangs were down to my nose. I love having blond hair again! Hooray for school!

What I did on my summer vacation....

We did a lot of things this summer, but one of my personal projects has been to develop a blog for our Moms Together group at church. We hope this will be a tool to help moms feel connected via the internet and a resource for information. Plus it saves some paper and postage since we won't be sending out monthly newsletters anymore.

So, check out my newest creation. Soon there will be new content posted there every few days! (Yes, you can subscribe to this new blog via email- look on the left side at the bottom).
